Hi,

My name is Anna Gluszczak. I am a teacher of English in a primary school in Gdynia in the north part of Poland. My students are seven-, eight- and nine years old. I've got twelve classes altogether.

I'm looking for pen friends - children abroad, preferably whole classes, who would exchange letters with my students. We could send postcards, photographs, flags and information about our countries to each other. This project would be prepared in class. I think that writing letters, even the simpliest sentences, like 'Hello, I'm Julia. What's your name?" gives the students the great opportunity and satisfaction to use the language they have learned, as well as helps them realize better the whole idea of learning a foreign language. Everyone loves receiving letters, so I think that getting them in classes, reading and being able to understand will increase the children's motivation for further learning.

If you find the idea useful for your students, please mail to me soon or write to my school:

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Dear Willy,
Thanks a lot for your last e.mail.

It is a good idea to integrate in a Project, at least, two schools inside the European Community and two schools with candidates to the EU. I agree that it could be in Estonia, Letonia or Lituania. I also can suggest a polish school from Chiechanow, where I have a very good relationship with some teachers.
About our school, let me tell you that our pupils have ages from 10 to 15 years old. We have about 800 pupils and 90 teachers. Our school is situated in the other side of the Tagus River, in front os Lisbon.
In order to create a good group of schools, firstly we have to plan a Preparatory visit. Any way, we don’t have too much time, because we have to organise it two months before. What do you think about organizing it in Austria? The end of January 2003 could be a possibility, but it has to be accepted by your National Agency.
Our idea could be a Comenius Project 1.3 (School development Project) and I have already a suggestion: The title could be IMAGINE, based in a song from John Lennon, and it would talk about “making a better school based in good relationship among all the pupils, never mind if they are immigrants or not. “Imagine all the people living in a world of peace and understanding ” would wish to exchange experiences in traditional culture, music, sports, literature… in a perspective of integration in a “big” Europe. About all this, the Educational Projects of each school would be very important to its development.
But this is only an idea, based in our Educational Project School:

“ Giving life a sense “ .
Well, that’s all for the moment. I’ll be waiting for your opinion about this idea, and remember, this is only an idea, nothing else for the moment.
Best regards

Vítor Costa

Lieber Herr Wallner!

Hello from Roebourne where the weather is starting to get very hot. We have a Year 3/4/5 (ages 8-10) class who will write to your students. Most of the children speak English as a second dialect, so they have some difficulty with 'standard' English. They are very interested in other cultures so this seems a good opportunity for them to find out about Austria, which is not one of the countries that would normally be on the Primary school teacher's list. We look forward to exchanging information.

I'm looking for penpals for my children of 9 years (two classes with about 35 children). We would like to know other culture and school life. We could write letters, send photos and video of our school and village in English.

Hello,
I am a first grade teacher in Bath, Maine, USA. For the past two years my 6 year olds have sent 3 classroom mascots around the world to a total of 9 countries. Each year some classes have chosen to continue the project and a couple have had to drop out. When that happens I look for another classroom to take their place. This year I am looking for another class to take the place of a class in Germany that worked with us. I saw your school on the ePals site and visited your web page. I especially like to correspond with a class that has a web page so that we can get a better idea of who we are involved with. You can visit our last year's page to get an idea of what we do. But basically we send a toy animal to your school with some souvenirs, your school sends us information about what the animal does there for the month and about your area, and we post your information on our web site. We can correspond through email also and do video conferences if you are able to set up a camera. If you are at all interested in having our first grade classrooms get to know each other, please let me know as soon as possible. We start school the first week in September, and usually send out the package by the middle of October.
Thanks for reading!

Dear Kids, Teachers, Etc.
My name is Gabby Potter in Gurnee, Illinois, USA and I am doing a report on Austria. I am wondering if you could help me by telling me something about what school is like in Austria for 9-10 year olds (In America that is 3rd Grade).
Thank you for your help (I only know ENGLISH, but it would be neat to receive any answer in your language as well)
